There is a world of serendipity and coincidence that surrounds our daily, mundane, tasks like vapour or ether.  It is a world in which a student wakes up in the morning, dreaming that everything was pitch black and that her homework was lost only to find out (upon arrival) that there had been a power outage for an hour and a half and all of the campus servers went down.
