A woman from the Four Mothers organization speaks about this war and the survival of Israel.  She asks what will happen if the Israeli Defense force comes down with a virus ... i.e. if it is unable to protect Israel because it becomes weak.  Here is her answer:

Today I know what will happen: there will be a slaughter here. We will not be in the sea, because we will simply be slaughtered. Not one person from the nation of Israel will remain. If the IDF comes down with a virus, no one will defend us, including our friends in the United States. So I feel that despite the terrible pain, this war is just and necessary to protect our lives. And I think that even when we remove hundreds of thousands of people from their homes in Lebanon, that is not only right, it is also moral. Because I do not want them to be killed in our shelling. But we have to shell. And we have to fight. Because this time, it's not over the security zone [in southern Lebanon], this time it is over our lives.
This has long been the problem with peace offerings in the Middle East.  Israeli, Jews, Americans, and Christians want peace.  We want to live without fear of bombs, kidnappings, or slaughter of ourselves, our family, or our kin.

It is quite obvious at this point in history that the Arab countries, and this then defaults to the people of those countries, do not want to live in peace.  They do not want to live without fear for themselves or their children for if these people truly wanted peace they would stop the lunatics who live with them from pursuing the outright genocide that is happening today.

I met Dean Karnazes today in person at the San Francisco marathon expo. I've heard him speak before but today he was available so we stopped and took some pictures. Those will show up as soon as we get them from the camera to flickr!  Dean was a really nice guy and very motivational in person.  Maybe I'll do a run with him on his 50/50 runs :)
