I'm a big fan of good customer service. It takes one minute longer for a CS rep to actually try to understand what you are trying to do and help. That one minute breeds loyalty in the customer base and brings in residual revenue. Good CS is generally a sign of a healthy business.

I'm having a bad CS moment with directNIC and that makes me wonder if something is wrong at the company? Maybe I should start looking into moving my domains somewhere else?

You decide. Here's my original trouble ticket:

--- I have purchased the directDNS in order to add MX records to my own email servers and it works great. However, i would still like to have my URL redirected from http://www.cantus.us/ to http://radio.weblogs.com/0143111 as if I had the redirect service.

Please tell me how to set my account up so that my URL forwards and I can maintain my MX records for email purposes. ---

and the response:

--- You are using directDNS for this domain another hosting option such as Bannerless hosting cannot be used ---

they also closed the ticket with that response. I felt incomplete after that response. The response also included (at the end) the URL to every FAQ, or self help area on the website - which I have been through thoroughly. So I re-opened the ticket with a slightly perturbed message. Maybe if I tick someone off they will help me:

--- Thanks for your response. However, it is unhelpful and uninformative. Perhaps I can rephrase my question?

I want directnic to forward my url http://cantus.us/ to http://radio.weblogs.com/0143111 while maintaining my MX forwards. Perhaps you can place a record in the directnic dns table (since I am pointing to ns0 and ns1.directnic.com)? I have read extensively through the help section before posting my original question and attempted to come to my own conclusions long before opening this ticket.

*** ********'s response only tells me "NO" when I'm looking for "yes, we could do that" or "no, we can't do that because" or "here's a way to do what you want..." ---

After re-reading that I'm afraid I was about to start lecturing on Quality or quoting from Zen, and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.

Funny thing about this ... I decided to try, just for fun, to see if I could create an A record to one of my parked domains and then change the hosting type of the parked domain to redirect here. It worked. I didn't know that directNIC gave out specific IP addresses. That's great! I wish J** St****** had told me that yesterday.
