DINOSAURS BITE BACK, PART DEUX: The French government wants to promote "solidarity" by abolishing a brand-new holiday, and making people work for nothing. For those who think that's very strange, there's this: the holiday was established after a heat wave in 2003 killed 15,000 old people. The French unions, which clearly believe the death of old people is worth celebrating with a day off, are rejecting the government's definition of solidarity as working for free. And somehow or other, the EU constitution suffers a setback as a result of all this. Mon Dieu! It brings to mind Horatio Hornblower's favorite toast, which if meant as a curse has worked to terrible effect: "Confusion to the French."

DINOSAURS BITE BACK: Excellent report by Cordova on the revolting goings on at the last meeting of the Arab League. It's a bit dated by developments since then, but worth reading if one wishes to understand what the President's freedom policy confronts in the Middle East.
