I WILL NEVER WRITE ABOUT MAUREEN DOWD AGAIN:  And I never have before.  I have never finished one of her op eds in the NYT.  I am glad for Times Select that they are now decently hidden from prying eyes.  I never noticed her stuff during the 90s, when I suppose it was in tune with the zeitgeist.  Now I am sure it is too late.

But there is, distantly, a moral point I wish to make.  Consider this.  How on earth does a serious newspaper, after 9/11, keep a person of such astonishing superficiality and witlessness on its payroll - and representing, God help us, the entire female sex?

Never mind.  Won't raise the subject again.
