Wu Ting, according to the ancient history Shu ching. . ., spent his formative years among "lower people," the poor and the farmers. He then began his rule in complete silence. "He did not speak for three years," the history tells us. "Afterwards, he was still inclined not to speak, but when he did speak, his words were full of harmonious wisdom."
