These exhibits show that people have appealed to a variety of sources when things go wrong.I am going to create some part of this exhibition based on my own interpretation of reading and visiting the actual exhibition.I will be making Ex-voto Vessels Idea
- Medicine and Health
-- ref:Medicine man exhibition @ The British Museum
-- Science Museum LondonForms
- Undecide, needs more researchMotifs
-- ref: ex-voto painting
Style Idioms
- Italian Maiolica
- Hispano-Moresque
- Combined Linear Drawing and Relief
Materials
- Toasted clay.Cone 8.Oxidation
- Porcelain white on white or cobalt water colour effectAction Plan
- Need to look into what kind of forms to use.
-- Italian medicine jar?
-- Teapots? The porcelain slip gives a strange quality to the stoneware. It looks good with my cheap jade glaze. This week, I started doing some 'Joanna Howells' without knowing exactly what she does with her slip. So far so good, except the slip can get bubbly if I move it around too much - and I can't take the air bubbles out like I do with plaster. Will play some more. I had also resort to making fresh porcelain slip. The freaking rusty wheel head drives me crazy.MyiolickaDid two maiolica test tile with white cherry glaze. [Raspberry sans chrome] This glaze is not dusty like a traditional maiolica glaze that I know from Sicily. I did a couple of drawings and colour charts with all my stains. It was fun. Will see how the colours come out in cone 8.Also made a plate trying out the gay sailor relief. I think it was a success. It works okay with the plaster mould backing. Today I can't seem to work it out on a vertical vase. Maybe I have to look into sprigging.

Bingo FiringI went to open my kiln to day. The hand built flat vase came out very good. The colour was right on. I finally get it that I don't have to slave myself to one firing temperature. The bisque firing was sufficient to get the iron red colour that I need. I'm please that it came out. This is the problem with sculpture - multiple firing - too expensive to make. I didn't get an explosion in my kiln this time with the tapioca in porcelain. The new firing ramp works out alright, but it used 36.6 kw rather than the usual 28 Kw. So it is more expensive to fire these little buggers.I'm a bit sensitive to cost as I just got the electricity bill!

My island gal pal just told me her new web site at www.juliet-robins.co.uk is up.
