Hay-on-Wye

Before we got on to Hay on Wye, we stopped at Hereford, where we have to transfer to the Welsh country. We went to visit the Hereford Cathedral, home of the medieval Mappa Mundi and Chained Library - two of Britain's most important historical treasures. The Cathedral has stood in Hereford since Saxon times.

Hay on Wye is about 5 hour's train journey west from London. It's famous for its book festival as well as the jazz festival. It's a very small Welsh town with many book shops - used and new. There're specailty bookshops for gardening, mysteries, etc. There is a 24 hours outdoor book shop in the yard of a run-down castle. There's no sales clerk, just a money box.

The food was very good and fresh and down to earth. The meat was excellent. With many apple trees and sheep, the cider was very good too.

We took some small walks outside of the town and the scenery was excellent. We walked along a warren and came up to a small hill. Once we got to the top, there was a big herd of sheep staring at us and we were staring at them close range!! Bah Ram U?
