Show #69: Culture Vultures - Reflections of a Grave Robber
This episode is a long reminiscence of my summer job as a student archaeologist working on an excavation in southwestern Saskatchewan. Thinking back on the process, and the way the summer unfolded, gave me a number of insights...They dawned on me slowly, just as I was retelling the story, which says much about the power of reflection and insight stitched together over the years.
The musical bed in this show is a long ambient piece called "At the Gate" from one of the performance collectives at Spheric Lounge. The closing piece is an extended version of the southern classic Shenandoah by guitar genius Bill Frisell from his album "Good Dog, Happy Man". It's a beautiful piece that captures the mood of the ending of the story. The piece is not podsafe nor used with permission, so if you like what you hear, buy one of Bill's CD's. I have many and they are all good.
All of this story, by the way, is true. There are no embellishments here, just real life, recollected.
