The Way We Live Now
The Way we live now by Anthony Trollope
Here’s one hefty classic (950 pages) that is also a
pleasure to read. The satiric plot pulls you right
along.
Lady Carbury, an aspiring and penniless author,
struggles to get her book published and favorably
reviewed. At the same time she schemes to marry her
money-wasting son to an heiress. When fabulously
wealthy Marie arrives on the scene, marriage offers
abound, and scoundrels come out in force Trollope’s
satire makes fun of greed, romance and snobbery in
1870’s Britain.
