Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius
A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers is a memoir of the years just after both his parents died of cancer, leaving Dave and his older brother and sister as guardians of their younger brother. Dave is chosen as the primary guardian and he tells how he and his brother coped with their loss and moving to a different area of the country. They had grown up outside of Chicago and relocated to the San Francisco area. Dave not only has to learn how to raise a child (his brother is 9 at the beginning of the book) but also find an apartment, and a job. Parts of it are very funny, and parts are sad, but all in all, it was an enjoyable read.
