Legend of Bagger Vance A few weeks ago, as I was settling in to watch the Masters Golf Tournament, I happened on the end of the movie "The Legend of Bagger Vance." I love that movie, and wondered if it was based on a book. Turns out, it was. The Legend of Bagger Vance was written by Steven Pressfield. It is the story of an exhibition golf game played in Georgia during the Depression. The original game was set to be Sir Walter Hagen and Bobby Jones playing against each other, but the town fathers want a local presence so they ask Rannulph Junuh--a local stand out golfer and World War I hero. When first asked, Junuh declines, but his friend, Bagger Vance--an imposing black man-- talks him into it. Everyone wonders who this Bagger Vance is, as does the narrator, Hardy Greaves. Hardy is the ten year old boy who gets to follow Junah and Vance around the golf course. The book's details are somewhat different from the movie, which is usually the case, but the gist is still there. It is a great book, not only for golf lovers, but also anyone interested in how people overcome obstacles. 2:30:43 PM
