Upcoming Events in the Youth Services Department

Write for fright! Authors' Night 6:30 PM Wednesday, November 19

The event honros winners in the Write for Fright Scary Story Contest. Enjoy spooky readings by winning authors. Refreshments include a Potiion Bar where kids can concoct their own Ghastly Fizzing Drinks.

"Ruff Reader" - Kids Read to Dogs! 2 PM Saturday, November 22

Kids can boost reading skills and confidence at private read-aloud sessions with a trained Listener Dog. They'll go home with a Paw Print Diploma and a new enthusiasm for reading. The friendly pooches are from West Michigan Therapy Dog, Inc. Children sign up for 15 minute sessions. Registration opens November 1.

Game Day Unplugged 2-4 PM Saturday, November 29

Checkers, Mancala, Battleship, Break the Ice, Cooties and more! Bring your favorite game or play one of ours at this drop-in session. Snacks and a few Goofy Door Prizes will add to the fun. Non-electric games only. All ages. No registration required.

Preschool Storytimes--7 PM Mondays, September 22 - October 27.
Stories and activities for ages 3 - 5. Registration required.

Toddler Storytimes--11 AM Mondays, September 22 - October 27.
Stories and activities aimed at 18 to 36 month olds. Toddlers and grownups attend together. Registration required.

Saturday Storytimes--2 PM Saturdays, Sept 27, Oct 4, Oct 18, Nov 1.
Stories and activities for ages 3 - 7. No registration required.

Teen Writing Workshop

Telling Your Story

A Teen Writing Workshop 1-3 pm Saturday, November 5 at Hackley Public Library

Explore problems, dilemmas and “best moments” through writing
Discover your own voice and how to use it
Gain feedback from other teen writers
Write without the pressure of grades

Muskegon Community College instructor Connolly Jenkins will lead the program. The workshop includes exercises to get ideas flowing and plenty of chances to write and share. The focus is on finding and telling your own story, based on personal feelings and experiences. Special Guests include singer-songwriter Anisa and Dr.Brian White from Grand Valley State University.
