Legal divorce is benefit for some gay couples.

It may not be on their minds as they walk down the aisle in Massachusetts, but along with gifts and toasts, many gay couples are finally getting one of the biggest benefits of matrimony: the ability to get a clean divorce.

Because their unions were not legally binding, gay couples have had few protections when they split and have had to rely on the mercy of judges to get alimony, parental rights or a stake in the couple's finances.

"The single most important thing you get with marriage is divorce, a predictable process by which property is divided, debt is apportioned and arrangements are made for custody and visitation of children," said Jo Ann Citron, a Boston lawyer researching a book on same-sex breakups called The Gay Divorcee.

Jude Law Faces $17million Divorce.

Jude Law faces a $17million divorce bill from ex-wife Sadie Frost.

The staggering demand, made at a High Court last week, includes a C$12million lump sum and the $8.5million London home the couple once shared.

Jude would also have to pay out an extra $35,000-a-month living allowance for Sadie and the pair's three children, Iris, Rafferty and Rudy.

If agreed, the tough terms could spell an end to the seven months of bitter fighting which followed the pair's 'quickie divorce' last October.

A source close to the couple told Britain's News of the World newspaper: "Sadie reckons the $17million lump sum is just a third of his income from the last year, in which he's done three films.

"A monthly allowance of $35,000 sounds a lot to the normal man on the street, but it's a sensible amount for Jude to give Sadie. He's the big earner out of the two of them. And there are children's nannies to be paid, as well as private school tuition."

Jude, who is romancing 'Alfie' co-star Sienna Miller, has made stipulations about the settlement.

Snoop Dogg ending marriage of 7 years. Snoop Dogg is getting a divizzle.

The rapper/actor has filed for divorce from Shante Broadus, according to papers filed Friday in Los Angeles County Superior Court. The couple, married since 1997, have three children. He is seeking joint custody.

Snoop, born Calvin Broadus, cited general "irreconcilable differences" for the breakup.

"The only thing I want to say is Mr. Broadus hopes that the divorce can be as amicable as possible," Snoop's attorney, Robert Nachshin, told the Associated Press this week.

Snoop co-stars in the movie Soul Plane, which opens Friday. He also starred in MTV's Doggy Fizzle Televizzle, a comedy show that added lots of z's and l's to the popular vocab.

Gest, Liza Minelli's former husband, changes lawyers in divorce case.

NEW YORK (AP) -- David Gest, estranged husband of entertainer Liza Minnelli, and his lawyer, Raoul Felder, have parted ways.

"I resigned from the case over two weeks ago," Felder said Monday. "I sent him a very nice letter praising his fortitude ... and telling him that I admired his strength in adversity. But I told him to get another lawyer."

Felder, who was former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani's lawyer in his divorce from TV personality Donna Hanover, said he decided that he and Gest should part because there had been a lapse in communication between them.
