Sony to offer advanced Walkmans to tackle iPod (Reuters).

Sony Corp's new portable music player 'Walkman A Series' NW-A1000 is displayed at an unveiling in Tokyo September 8, 2005. The new hard disk player is equipped with an organic electro-luminescence (OLED) display and is capable of playback for digital MP3 and ATRAC files, Sony said. The new device will become available as NW-A3000, with 20GB of built-in hard disk, and the 6GB NW-A1000 with sales starting in Japan on November 19 for 35,000 yen ($318) and 30,000 yen ($272). (Issei Kato/Reuters)Reuters - Sony Corp. said on Thursday it would sell advanced Walkman portable music players later this year, aiming to move out of Apple Computer Inc.'s shadow in a market the Japanese company created a quarter of a century ago.
