I'm inspired by Adrian Holovaty's Google hack for Chicago crime stats. I'm looking into doing something similar for public school referendums in Connecticut.

When I talk with people about blogging or websites that contain
personal positions on work, politics, or even hobbies, most of them
bristle. The thought of making a mistake or giving away too much
information is repulsive to so many people. There is an innate fear
that having a public persona might make you vulnerable to getting
knocked down a peg by someone else. I have the good fortune of working
for someone that isn't captive to that mentality. He doesn't care about
other's opinions of him. He speaks his mind and isn't afraid of making
mistakes. Ironically, this doesn't expose him to an abnormal amount of
criticism. In fact, people trust him, value his counsel and share
innovative ideas with him. Why? Because they know
him. He hides nothing. We've all got our private lives, but
professionally, we're out there, every day, looking for links and
connections to something better than good enough.
That's one of the things that's inspired me to blog. People are going
to "Google" me anyway. I might as well give them some insight into how
I think - what interests me and what puzzles me. I think others who
blog are happy to develop relationships, but don't necessarily have the
time to participate in synchronous meetings to kick them off. Now you
know.
