Though the author never drew a link to web communications tools, the New York Times reported
just how influenced we are by others. The same research that Solomon
Asch conducted is what many of us are discovering in the
blogosphere. David Weinberger said in an interview with Chris Lydon that because "we have the ability to connect to enough subjectivities around the
world, multiple subjectivities, dozens, hundreds, if you want, that we
would could start to give subjectivity some of the heft that
objectivity has reserved for itself that's made objectivity valuable." (Thanks Ryan Irelan for the transcription). This is a large part of what Solomon Asch found in his research.
Bottom line: What keeps us going? The neat, tidy, objective truth or
the somewhat messy, often more influential world of subjectivity?
