So why is it that Apple dropped FireWire 800 from the MacBook Pro? The
best answer I can find points to two things. Apple[base ']s FW 800 drives are
hit and miss. They work with one machine, but when the drive is moved
they may not work with the next device. So with Apple having problems
making things work across the board, they decided to not support it
with this machine. The second problem was that Intel does not have
native FW 800 and Apple did not have good drivers, installing the
connector was asking for huge problems. Getting the MacTel out the door
was the goal and that[base ']s the only way the early release was possible.
