Hard drive cases come in various sizes and shapes and with lots of different configurations. If your looking for a good case with a good chip set then I recommend the OWC (Other World Computing) products. I have purchased just about 20 different cases and keep coming back to the OWC products. Currently I own 4 of them. They are quiet and can be ordered with Firewire 800 connectors or FireWire 400 connectors, and for those of you who want it they even have combo units that have all three connectors. This makes moving them from machine to machine easy due to the fact that some of the older Macs do not have FireWire built-in. Please note these cases are not cheap they cost around $89.00 and no I don't sell them.

Again we need to point out that if you buy a new hard drive you need to format it as a Mac Hard drive. I don't care where you buy this hard drive or if it's internal or external just do it. Fat32 drives (PC formatted) will come right up and look the same as a Mac hard drive you won't know the difference until you have moved a bunch of files over and damaged them. Signs of damage are missing icons and a failure to double click on them. The reason is that they are ripped apart because the PC format does not know about Mac resource forks that are suppose to remain attached to the files so it rips them off and puts them into a folder for you called resource forks. Now it may sound like you can just put them back together and everything will be kosher but you can't.
