As usual, another month, another turn of events from Apple Inc. This time Apple has announced a deal with EMI to offer DRM free music. Steve Jobs ability to talk music companies into doing the right thing is amazing, if not freakish. Most of us hope this new deal causes a ripple effect throughout the music industry and that shortly others will join the bandwagon. I, for one, purchase very little music from online services due to not being able to have an instant backup. If I buy the CD it is my backup and I can rip it and put the music wherever I please. Here is the reason to never, ever keep your purchased CDs in your vehicle. Last week my van was left unlocked and my parking change got stolen. Not much else was in the van other than my duplicated CDs. Not one of them was missing; thieves look for things that they can sell, and there is no market for CD copies. Another reason to only carry duplicates is the fact your car gets up to 140 degrees in the summer, which is not good for any plastic, let alone your music collection.
