Two-thirds of small business owners (67%) are planning to take at least one full week of vacation this summer, according to the OPEN from American Express (SM) 2006 Semi-Annual Monitor. But out of sight does not mean out of mind for the more than half (54%) of respondents who plan to check in with their businesses at least once a day while on holiday. Conversely, 25% of business owners say they will not check in at all while on vacation.

Companies looking for a way of checking on the immigration status of employees have a little known but effective program available at no cost that is being provided as part of the federal government’s homeland security agency.

Called the SAVE Program and administered by the Federal Citizen and Immigration Service, this offering is currently being used by more than 6,000 companies throughout the United States.

Confirming studies conducted by Information Strategies, Inc. (ISI), AFLAC insurance’s latest study highlights the concerns small firms have about their ability to provide affordable healthcare insurance to employees.

The latest study by the Georgia-based company mimics ISI’s own research, a landmark study of 3,500 employers who indicated that healthcare was their number-one concern for long-term company viability.

Seventy percent of small business decision-makers indicated to AFLAC that they are concerned about their company's ability to provide affordable health insurance coverage for employees, according to a recent survey commissioned by AFLAC.
