I am hip-deep in the nearly-universal annual ritual of "doing my taxes". Nearly universal for Americans, at any rate. On the off chance that someone reading this doesn't know, this refers to preparing an income tax "return" for 2006. Like most states, North Carolina has a state income tax, so I have to do a separate return for that, as well.

I'm expecting a big refund, so I have a practical motivation to get this finished. It's remarkable -- though not surprising -- how painful the process feels, nonetheless.
