This morning I was sitting in my garden having a cup of tea, and I discovered that one of my irises was blooming. I have been trying for over 10 years to grow irises with no luck (please don't leave a comment on this post about how easy irises are to grow...I've heard it all before). I love irises, and my repeated failure to grow them over the years has been very frustrating.
Two summers ago when we bought the house I noticed limp iris foilage in the poison-ivy-and-weed-infested garden beds that surrounded the house (the previous owner had ripped out all the perennials that used to fill those gardens...I guess she overlooked the irises for some reason). Anyway, I dug them up, put lots of bone meal and blood meal fertilizer in the ground around them, and buried them again. Two years later, my work has been rewarded with my first ever blooming iris.
