Private mortgage premium costs are tax deductible - 04/07/2007 A mortgage broker recently told me tax laws changed for 2006, and private mortgage insurance can now be deducted on tax returns. I have not been able to find documentation confirming this. Offhand, do you know if this is true? I have already filed my return. Would it be worth filing an amended return? -- T., Los Angeles

Mortgage brokers recommend prequalification - 03/04/07 Knowing the lowest-priced neighborhoods may be helpful, but not as important as the mortgage for which one can qualify. A family can't predict it by just looking at its monthly paycheck or bank account because of the many variables considered.

Aliante wins Homer award
The Aliante master-planned community received the "Best Master-Planned Community Merchandising Campaign" award at the recent Homer Awards festivities, which were sponsored by the Southern Nevada Home Builders Association.
Participants submitted 77 entries in 17 categories. Aliante won its award primarily on the strength of the design of the community's sales information center, according to the association.
Dan Naef, senior vice president of North Valley Enterprises, developer of Aliante, was delighted.
"Prospective home buyers who visit the Aliante Information Gallery first have the assurance of knowing that they are accessing the best source of information regarding just about every possible aspect of this community," he said.
The center is located near the southeast corner of Interstate 215 and Aliante Parkway, just across from the community's 20-acre Nature Discovery Park. The 4,600-square-foot building was designed by Las Vegas-based JMA Architects, while MICE Marketcraft, of Tempe, Ariz., handled the interior design.
"It is a beautiful building, with great indoor-outdoor relationships," said Claudia Gerster, vice president of the commercial division of MICE Marketcraft. "Appropriately, we brought materials and concepts from the outside to the inside of the building. The stonework you see on the exterior is carried over to the inside. For the flooring, we used a natural slate material and incorporated into it blue-tinted glass pebble tiles to create what looks like a creek running through the slate."
A series of free-standing kiosks in the center provides visitors with information.
"There is even a special interactive niche, with computer monitors and a computer program that can take visitors on a virtual tour of the community," Gerster said.
To visit, take U.S. Highway 95 to the Interstate 215 east exit. Proceed to the Aliante Parkway exit then go south to the information center. Office hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. from: http://www.lvnewspapers.com/realestate/REOct-24-Sun-2004/North/25039250.html (accessed March 27, 2006)
