MTV For The YouTube Generation - thePLUS TV. In September 2006 I wrote an internal PodShow document that described a streaming video station. My underlying thought was a vision of what MTV might be today had they chosen to stay on their core path of short-form video, which today would include top YouTube hits, podcasts, episodic series and a healthy dose of talent with an attitude. We made a few different choices in our technical implementation, but otherwise came pretty close to the original concept. Over the past 6 weeks we’ve been testing the system, slowly scaling everything up in preparation for her prime-time launch, 72 hours of coverage of the 2007 Digital Music Awards this week.
Big props to Lisa Ahrons, who has pretty much singlehandedly implemented the plan, borrowing resources from anywhere she could, stealing when she had to. My personal thanks to everyone from the SF HQ, BTPodShow and Vince’s krew who have put in months of long hours of work to bring this project to fruition.
Our BackStage Pass coverage of the DMA’s has already started, and includes some familiar faces from our network, and the fun is just beginning. From today onwards you can discover great shows, music and videos on thePLUS, 24/7 Live, No Jive. Enjoy!
