Dan Gillmor asks: "...we're being setup to live in a system we should abhor. When will people wake up?"

The problem is, Dan, that I'm awake, but not sure what to do about Palladium or my company keeping tabs on me.

They are paying my wage. I'm really happy I just have a job right now and to tell you the truth, working at NEC has been a good experience for me so far.

One thing I'll do when Palladium gets here is look for alternatives. One that I'm getting very interested in again is the Apple Macintosh. If Apple gets into the Palladium madness -- which I seriously doubt it will* -- then I'll look at Linux. I'm also keeping my copies of Windows 2000 at the ready.

I remember the world used to be centralized before. Anyone remember the IBM mainframe view of the world? Then the Apple II came along and people started bringing them into work.

There'll be a balance between getting things done without the boss always watching over our shoulders and their rights to look over our shoulders.

If they succeed too well, we'll just start writing in code.

There will always be a way around Palladium and big businesses interests.

But, there will be a human toll too.

1984 is coming true, huh?

Oh, did anyone miss the fact that I get my picture taken everytime I enter or leave NEC?

Oh, great. I can't spell. Neither can other people on Google.

It's supposed to be allegiance. Thanks to Adam Vandenberg for pointing out that I don't know how to spell. I hate that when I make a mistake, but it's good to be caught.

Heh, search for "Pledge of Allegience" on Google and I'm on the first page.

All it takes is a couple of people linking to a particular page on a particular topic to get a decent rating on Google.

Sorry about the archive pages not being uploaded yesterday. I'm not sure why that happened.

Oh, I forgot about all the foreign governments that Microsoft is trying to sell Windows and Office to too. If you think the US Government is bad, wait until you meet the Chinese. They don't allow weblogging over there and think that a free press is something that they just won't put up with.

I don't know why. What's the worst that you'll get with a free press? Me? Heh.

Control your people. That's what it's all about. Whether you work in an IT shop. Or in government.

People are nasty and do nasty things. They must be controlled.

Palladium, here we come!
