Reading through the earthquake reports on Weblogs.Com. I was watching the San Jose-Colorado NHL playoff game on CBC and heard about it. Then noticed a note from Jake on the instant outline about it.
Q&A with Carl Malamud about NetTopBox:
"Electronic Program Guides are a little-known area, but a pretty crucial one as consumer media starts to meet the Internet. You wouldn't think that the idea of a directory of programs on the tube would be novel, but the Patent Office, after a careful search of their own files, determined that no patents had been issued and this was therefore new and then proceeded to award a few hundred patents." Wired News takes a look at noise emissions from PCs:
"Figuring there were others who shared his noise sensitivity, Bird decided to turn the lessons he learned from tinkering into a business. He opened an online store selling parts to reduce processing noise."
The article includes a few initiatives to make quieter PCs: NEC/Transmeta, Intel, Apple and Microsoft. The best round up is from Tomas Risberg in Sweden and his Silent PC page.
