Cnotes.Phrasewise.Com : A Bitter Little Pill. "dsjkfowutoijweojfop" [A 2 year old's blog entry leaves something to be desired...]

Al on health care: "But there is something slightly obscene about turning people into numbers, throwing them into a spreadsheet matrix, and trying to deliver good care by examing the results. People aren't widgets, ER's aren't receiving areas, and hospitals aren't factories. Trying to force them all into a model that doesn't reflect those realities isn't going to work." [No question, no one wants to be turned into a number. But how do we contain the cost? Do we accept a lower level of care overall? I have no answers, only questions.]

A snippet from Dave's morning coffee notes from yesterday... "...We are managing, inch by inch, staying afloat, and have a great time with the software and the community. But the business environment, which hasn't been normal here for over a decade, shows no signs of smoothing out anytime soon." [Ain't it the truth (out here as well). Ahh well, these things turn around eventually. In the meantime, digging for work, and enjoying the time for what it is. Life's too short.]

Brent pointed to this tip: "QuickTime Streaming Server (QTSS) can be installed without any problem even on MacOS X client. I know that this could be a stupid hint, but in every ReadMe about QTSS MacOS X Server 10.1 is required. Checking the QTSS FAQ, I found that it's fully compatible with MacOS X Client, even if this configuration is not supported by Apple. The only disclaimer is that AppleCare does not support QTSS on OS X Client."

[Cool. So I downlowded QTSS. Ran the ususal no thinking Apple installer, created a few passwords, pointed it into my iTunes folder so that all the cd's I've ripped would be available for playlists... and voila. Streaming media. Create a playlist... hmm a couple of selections... OK, punch a URL into iTunes on my laptop. Bam! That was simple. Now I have access to a nice collection of music anywhere wthin range of my 802.11b connection. Heh. Commercial free radio lives!]

[I wish I could share all this, but besides the ongoing bandwidth saga, I don't have the money for the royalties. Besides, it's more fun if you set one up yourself. Plenty of binaries from Apple for other platforms...]

ANN: Transport Layer Security (TLS) v0.1. "This version supports both MacOS Classic and Windows systems; a build for MacOS X is currently in development. Note that this is a prerelease version of the software -- the contents of the first full release may be significantly different from what is currently available. Watch http://tls.macrobyte.net/ for updates." [The announcement on ScriptMeridian.]

Macrobyte: Transport Layer Security. "This product provides a mechanism for accessing secure websites from Frontier and Radio. Other uses for the TLS protocol are possible but not presently implemented. If you have an interest in other applications of TLS in Frontier/Radio, please post your suggestions." [Go Seth!]

The Joel on Software Forum: In Search of the Peopleware Workplace. "Working as a software developer sucks." [Good stuff follows]
