Bottom line, the DNS changes have tossed things for a loop, but they should be unknotted in a couple of days, thanks for hanging in...

When it rains, it pours *

[There I was trying to fall asleep after the Kings managed to give away the series to the Lakers, when the alarm went off that tells me that the webserver is down. I log into the machine, and indeed Frontier has crashed. I try to fire it up and it crashes immediately. No big deal, I restart the machine and everything goes back to normal. Usually. I bounce the machine and it doesn't come back. Uggh. Too late to call my buddy who's been hosting the machine for a while, I say "ah well" to myself, I'll get it in the morning.

This morning he bounces the machine. Nothing. Cold boot? Nothing. I drive over there grab the machine and bring it back to the lab. Hmmm. Keybord seems unresponsive, and the clear Apple mouse isn't glowing. Chime is sounding, fans are whirring, CD spins up, but no booting takes place. OK.

I check, the machine's long out of warranty (no surprise, the warranty is about ten minutes.) Step one, grab the drive, shift the jumpers plug into working machine. Drive's fine, everything's there. Copy over the critical stuff, set drive aside. Plug this in there, change this setting to that, modify DNS and HUP the other, related, daemons. Back on line. DNS will take a while to catch up, and I have to drag this machine in to be repaired. Joy. Another day lost to nonsense. I suspect this is an aftermath of the storm hit we took the other day... but who knows. Forward!]
