Move Me
Looks like I should have read all of my email before starting to build the new PC. I'm catching up on the past week's email and found the November 26 Infopackets Windows Newsletter waiting for me in my inbox. The feature article was about a program called Move Me. Here's the introductory line.
Move Me is an application to simplify the process of configuring the settings from your old computer on a new computer. Move Me transfers all Windows preferences to the new computer, in addition to moving any installed user applications.
Well, that would have been useful! It can be licensed for just $19.95 with a trial version available from the Infopackets site. I'll have to remember it for next time.

You've Got to Get This Program
ActiveWords is another utility I've written about before. It is a wonderful task automation utility that I learned about at the first GnomeDex from Buzz Bruggeman, the president of the company. I use it many times a day to automate things I do repetetively. For example, in any application I can type "sig" and press F8 and I get this:
Gary Petersen <my email address, which I've deleted from this post> http://www.countrykeepers.com/weblogs
If I type "bl" and press F8, ActiveWords opens up a browser window and navigates to the Bloglines web site. "xl" and F8 opens up Microsoft Excel. I can even use it to create a new email message and write default text into the subject line and message body. ActiveWords really is a wonderful, incredibly useful program.
But it just got even better. Thanks to the fine folks at LockerGnome, you can get the a single-seat licenst to the basic SE version of ActiveWords for free! Here's the scoop from a recent issue.
Turn words into actions from any program. Type "close" followed by the ActiveWords key (F8 is the default) and the active program closes. Type "write"+F8 and ActiveWords opens or switches you to your already opened word processor. You can add more commands to tell your computer what to do without navigating the interface. The folks behind ActiveWords SE are giving Gnomies a gift for those who open it before January 10, 2004, a *free* license to their ActiveWords SE product for all Lockergnome readers during the Holidays. That's free, zero cost, zilch, nada, nothing, complimentary, gratis, made available without charge. If you decide you like it and want more features, ActiveWords PLUS is available at a special 20% discount to Lockergnome readers!
The details are on the ActiveWords site. You need to do this by January 10, 2004, so get on it!
