She died at 6AM this morning.
I found out about it after fighting my way home so that Lillian wouldn't wake up alone. (Her cousins were over, so her aunt was sleeping in the front room.)
I walked in the house, after having left her a kiss from Lillian on her forehead, went to the bathroom, came out and was told that she'd died about 10 minutes ago.
I have a lot more written about this, but it suddenly occurred to me that the details...some of them aren't mine to post, maybe after I ask if it's cool.
She was always a wonderful grandmother to my daughter. She was always nice to me, even when her daughter wasn't (Thanks for the pound cakes! :)). I know I miss her already, the strength of that missing is something of a surprise to me.
I know my daughter will miss her terribly in the days, months and years to come. I'm glad that her passing was in peace and helped work out some of the differences between Josephine and some of her siblings.
I hope I can be strong enough to help Lillian remember her Nana in a way that will augment the strength she has already shown.
Goodbye Louise, fare well, wherever you are.

Death comes riding...
..down the highway...in its Sunday best. A fire of unknown origin took my baby away. Blue Oyster Cult - Fire of Unknown Origin.
So. Josephine's mother is dying.
Whole thing started on Tuesday, and now we're already to Friday. Really seems alternately like it's been a long time and yet no time at all.
Tuesday morning I was on my way after a meeting after work to cover Josephine at a doctor appointment. On my way, I got a call from Josephine that he mother appeared to have had a stroke, and was in the Emergency room. Her sister-in-law's mother had come over to do cleaning and had found her acting groggy and unresponsive.
Later information revealed that she had a brain hemorrhage instead. The blood had put pressure on her brain and caused her to be unresponsive.
They brought her into Boston (St. Elizabeth's in Brighton) to assess her condition for surgery.
Josephine and I drove into town to meet them (We live north of the city and her mother and a good sized chunk of the family live to the south.
We waited and, it being the hospital, received a fair bit of hassle with just getting started. Josephine tends to be very "hands on" with hospital visits. She wants to be there to reassure whoever is in the hospital. This seems to freak most hospitals out to a greater or lesser degree.
