I just found an interesting thing on Mac OS X - it's called Summary Service. What it does is summarized selected text - the size of the summary is adjustable. It's pretty neat.

Just select some text, go into the Application menu (the one by the Apple menu), go to the services submenu, and choose Summarize.

DevShed.com has been sold. DevShed was really the thing that brought me to work at InfoWest way back in 1999 (before Developer Shed, Inc. was spun off). It's really been the major focus of my life for more than 3 years.

I've been working on getting the new owners up to speed on the site, slowly losing the ability to do anything on it. I just demoted myself from Administrator on the forums today.

It's a sad time, but there are some projects we are considering that seem quite promising. It's just a matter of choosing which ones to pursue.

We also have to come up with a new name for the company - the new owners don't want us to use Developer Shed, Inc., as it is identical to the name of their website.

My iBook has been behaving oddly lately, so I decided to reformat and install everything. Almost done with it - just reinstalled Radio.

This is my first post to my weblog in a long time because Radio was on my iBook and my power adapter died, thus leaving me with no way to recharge my battery. This was three weeks ago.

I took a drive down to the local Apple authorized dealer to buy a new one. They didn't have one, but they could order me one. It would take "3 or 4 days" to get it. I had them order it.

4 days passed, I dropped by. No adapter. I decided to give them some more time. 4 more days, no adapter. I'm getting angry. I wait a week, they don't call. I drop down there - it still hasn't been delivered.

Yesterday, it was almost 3 weeks since I first ordered it. No calls, no adapter. I go to the Apple Store online and order an adapter to be overnighted. It came today.

What is going on here? Is Apple deliberately keeping orders from Apple Authorize Dealers waiting so the irate customers will come to the Apple Store for reasonable turnarounds on orders?

The band did a tour last week starting on Wednesday, through LV and into sunny Southern California.

A lot of people I know don't like Disneyland, but I think it has a lot of charm and there are some fun rides. And I love California Adventure. Food is too expensive, but you can leave the parks and go across the street for some inexpensive food.

It was very fun, but very tiring. We had 5 performances in 2 days, all went quite well, then we got to play around in the parks for a couple of days. A lot of walking - I'm sure I lost some weight.

It seems that NetNewsWire can now get categories from Radio. There must have been a Radio.root update that allowed that. Nifty.

Why doesn't Radio include this?

On a happier note, I just received notice a few minutes ago that the new bass I've been waiting a year for is now in Salt Lake City acclimating to the climate after coming in from Germany.

I'll have it in 6-8 weeks. Finally, a quality instrument!

I found out yesterday that I've been edged out playing the bass for The Wizard of Oz out at Tuacahn this upcoming season.

I'd be OK with it, but for the circumstances. The guy who got the job is a co-worker of the show's orchestra conductor (a fellow professor at Dixie State). The show's conductor is also my band/jazz band teacher and I played bass in his orchestra for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat last Summer season, so he knows how good I am.

But get this: he plays guitar, not bass. Admittedly, he also plays bass guitar, but I've done that show before and it definitely needs an upright bass, which he doesn't do at all.

It's a good think I am in on The King and I, playing clarinet and bass clarinet. But, dammit, I really needed the extra cash working out there 6 nights a week would bring.

Too much politicking goes on in this little corner of Utah, especially in the music scene.

Well, I just renewed my license for Radio for another year. I intend to make much better use of it this year. Another happy new thing: I finally figured out how to get NetNewsWire to post to Radio. The categories still don't work, though.

I just noticed that my comment links disappeared when I switched themes to this one. I need to look into that.

Well, our April Fools trick worked, but due to the load it put on the DevShed servers it was able to be up only this morning.

Fun while it lasted.
