The things we learn from a cat
Toute Sweet is one of our cats. She's a sweetheart - and a cancer survivor for over seven months so far.
Toute just has a way about her - she comes to you and demands attention (especially being petted), with many purrs. She knows just the right time to visit - usually on her schedule.
A couple of days ago, I was playing with the dogs - toss balls, dogs chase, gets balls back and repeat until either the dogs or the human gets tired - usually the human gets tired first. Well, Eli made a mistake and charged me to get a ball and just happened to catch my hand on one of his teeth. This stopped the game while I got all flustered (we'll skip the yelling part, which did nothing other than scare the dogs). Off I went to clean up the cut and get bandaged up. GRRR. The dogs had only played for a minute or so and were kind of upset because we usually play a lot longer.
Pop - Toute jumped up onto my lap. She reminded me that I'm not supposed to get all upset and flustered. She demanded I pat her to settle down and then go back to playing with the dogs. I really didn't want to pat her. But one look into those big blue eyes and hearing her purr changed everything. I tried to talk her out of demanding some patting... but she insisted. I'm sure she said "Pat me - NOW! Forgive Eli! You are being a dope! It was an accident! Get back to playing with the dogs!" So, that's what I did.
Why does this little story matter? It seemed to me that God was involved the whole time. Accidents happen and we stop loving. We get all furious and irrational for really dopey reasons. If we really listen to God, we have to forgive and love even more.

Picture of Lacy

This is a picture of Lacy - not a great picture... but that was her. I'll dig up a better picture eventually...
