Whats the Fuss about RSS: an NLII Learning Objects Virtual Community Of Practice teleconference (July 11) Alan Levine, Brian Lamb and D'Arcy Norman are talking about supplemting Learning Objects (in repositories) with descriptive RSS feeds. They have set up a Wiki as the accompanying resource for this talk. http://a-mtype.apsc.ubc.ca/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?TheFuss Interesting discussion about integrating RSS and Learning Object repositories. It is great to hear these concepts getting wider attention. We have been struggling with Learning Objects in the Faculty of Science (like everyone) for the last couple of years - in particular I find the methods of generating and navigating metadata to be quite cumbersome. Applying the chiefly social aspects of weblogs (and more interestingly IMHO) News Aggregators and RSS to Learning Objects, the idea of reusable objects immediately becomes easier to imagine. Elements such as peer referrral present in weblog communities mirrors what happens within disciplines. I will admit that I need to sit down and study what these three have done. I am a fan of RSS, Weblogs (although I find it too hard to maintain one), and News aggregators but like others have mentioned, I would love to see an real life example. (and I have this fuzzy thought that I like to see P2P sharing and storage of LOs. Is this possible or desirable?).
