Wifi on the Run - Too Much Time on the Road

I have been spending a fair bit of time in airports lately. The lifesaver is when I can find a free WiFi hotspot to quickly download my email in the few minutes before my next flight. I am often literally unpacking my computer as I walk/run to the hotspot (sign of a problem?).

At a recent 20 minute layover in Phoenix I was able to download my new email, send out the messages I had written on the last flight, catchup on my latest RSS feeds in NetNewsWire (including the Daily Source Code) and engage in a quick IM chat!

In Houston they recently took out the chairs in the open hotspot forcing all the wifi squatters to literally squat on the floor. I am not too proud to sit on the floor if it means free wifi!

It is a great place to meet others (we are the new smokers). I often am able to strike up conversations with others. The pattern is a little odd -clearly we are in the same place at the same time for the same reason. Recently I was invited into the President's Lounge by a fellow technophile who happened to be a member.

Until I sign onto one of the ubiquitous wireless plans I am likely to repeat this pattern and am happy to meet anyone who is in the same boat! Enjoy it while it lasts.
