« no title »

The most important RSS element: <title>. Jon Udell has said it before, today Dave Winer says "Unless the RSS has a <title> element, it's going to be kind of goofy". And here I sit, blogging via email to Radio, creating yet another RSS item without a title. I usually try to fix it when I get home; I hate it when other bloggers don't use titles. Forget about the aggregator on the Start menu. How about putting title support into mail-to-weblog? Just look for emails that start with a <title> element, extract that and make that the title of the post. Come to think of it, Sam Ruby's idea to create a weblog API that simply accepts RSS items makes more and more sense. [Gordon Weakliem's Radio Weblog]

Gordon, I like Sam's idea too, but right now you can use David Brown's MailEdit tool, which lets you specify title and several other things when you mail a blog entry to Radio.

« Continuing through the carpal tunnel »

We started dealing with my left hand today. It isn't affected as severly as my right hand, so surgery isn't necesarily the first option. I opted to get a cortisone injection (actually a mixture of about 9 cc of lidocaine to about 0.5 cc of steroid) into the carpal tunnel area. Took two big needles full of gunk. It's a little sore now that the lidocaine has worn off, and I have to wear my splint, full-time for the next two days, then at night for two weeks. If this doesn't work, we'll try another injection. If that doesn't work, then I'll get the same operation that I got on the right hand, oh boy.

We're deferring for a while the decision of whether or not to operate on my right elbow to alleviate the ulnar nerve subluxation that's causing cubital tunnel problems.
