FM radio has become a slave to bland format except for some college stations. Satellite radio promises more specialized channels, but each of them is likely to still be a market-research-driven average rather than a place of fun and innovation. The current state is based on an obsolete view of the spectrum. Maybe we could overlay thousands of stations, local or connected, using a distributed radio fabric based on open spectrum. The current radio oligopolies would not appreciate, not would the capital-intensive, still unprofitable satellite radio business. 10:54:08 PM ![]() |
