Some recent music purchases, partly inspired by the Idiot's Delight playlist (still no webcast, groan):

Another Windows virus is on the prowl. I've started receiving complaints from mail servers that messages I sent are infected. This is nonsense, I run OS X. The problem is of course that these servers run poorly designed filters that auto-reply to forged From addresses, thus adding to the bogus message flood. It is so difficult for those software vendors (Norton in this case) to do the simplest integrity checks on headers? Rhetorical question, of course. It's easy, but they don't care.

Transparent duct tape - I haven't used it (someone mentioned it last night and a search of the 3M site turned it up). Somehow this seems wrong. It may work wonderfully, but ugly duct tape is a badge of honor. [tingilinde] Duct tape is a crucial fashion accessory for the hardcore skier. Wind it around your (extensible, of course) ski poles so that you have a stash for emergencies (you are prepared!). Use it to patch pants ripped on some heinously rocky slope, jacket speared by a treacherous tree branch, or gloves cut by sharp metal edges. For extra fashion points, telemarkers use it to fix binding malfunctions. Transparent tape would just not do.
