I'm playing a little more with categories and navigation links. This could be really nice, if (when) I get it all psyched out.
I spent several hours at work today trying to get Radio 8 to work. The News aggregator would come up blank. None of the links or text was visible. Thanks to the radio discussion area we figured out the answer. Thanks, Jake. 10:33:16 PM

Genome exposes buried bugs. Nature Jan 14 2002 2:27AM ET [Biotech news]
This may be the ultimate "needle in a haystack problem". They look for the presence of viral or microbial sequences amongst the human genomic sequences in a cell. This is time concuming and not something that can, in the short term, yield diagnostic results by itself. But, it can be used to determine whether certain chronic illnesses, such as arthritis, are caused by microorganisms or not. 10:01:22 PM

New method for anticancer drug discovery developed. [EurekAlert!]
So, we can now do high throughput assays on an array of living cells. This is appealing to pharma, because THIS IS pretty much what they have always done: devise high throughput assays to do their work. And it may be an efficient way to find a drug candidate but not a very interesting way to my mind. It does not really further a deeper understanding of the biology, making it less likely to find truly novel therapeutics. 6:24:39 PM
