Apple's life science efforts bearing fruit [MacCentral]

Nice article.  5:02:13 PM

Klognet links.

Many posts in my news aggregator are not deleted because I'm thinking about klognet pilot in my research group and I want to keep links to all kinds of useful ideas. This is not the full list, but a try-out to clean my aggregator :)

[Mathemagenic]

I'll need to read some of these.  4:55:56 PM

Building Online Communities. It's easy to install and run a Web site or a mailing list. It's hard to run it well. The secret lies in understanding and adopting the best characteristics of several online communities. Ausdrucken! [O'Reilly Network Articles][Der Schockwellenreiter] [thomas n. burg | randgänge] [Blogging Alone]

A nice read, very down-to-earth. Things worth keeping in mind.

[Seb's Open Research]

This has lots of useful ideas about creating communities.  4:53:42 PM

Gains in Understanding Human Cells. NYT: The aim of systems biology is to be able to give doctors the same kind of control over cells as electronic engineers have over their circuits. ... systems biologists [are] discussing how they might construct computer models of the entire cell. We may soon find that the elaborate simulation tools developed for computer systems have paved the way for modeling tools in gene technology. It's fascinating to think of how humans are quickly understanding fundamental biological mechanisms, and getting ready to precisely model and control them. What ambitions! what possibilities! [Jinn of Quality and Risk]

I think an understanding of some of the simple aspects of system biology will occur in a few years. How long it takes to gain a full understanding is, unfortunately, quite a bit harder to predict.  4:17:30 PM

Ronald Reagan. "Politics is supposed to be the second oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first." [Quotes of the Day]

Thomas A. Edison. "There is no expedient to which a man will not go to avoid the labor of thinking." [Quotes of the Day]

Nice way to end the week.  4:10:13 PM

I took a day off. I'm working on this on my laptop while my son goes online from his iBook, both wirelessly. Kind of neat.  3:56:37 PM
