You have to marvel at a Senator that begins a speech quoting a poet who died almost 130 years ago. You'll never see that on CNN or Fox. Byrd may be the oldest member of the Senate and may have some old skeletons in the closet but he makes a very fiery member of the opposition. If we had more who could speak like him, the Democrats would be a whole lot more interesting than they are today. 11:00:23 PM

Check out Warren Buffet's op-ed piece. Buffet is someone I have always listened to. He has always appeared to have a good perspective on the financial world and has made a lot of money for people in ethical ways, in contrast to so many we read about on Wall Street. 10:14:32 PM

NANNY-STATISM -- in Texas? Yep. Radley Balko has the scoop. [InstaPundit.Com]
Here is a summary of the bill. This really does seem like something that the tort system will really love. The food police already know what is good and bad for us. Lets just ignore the data showing that in some cases obesity comes from a high carbohydrate diet, not a high fat one. We just do not know enough about human diets yet to make these sorts of regulations. But lack of knowledge has never stopped stupid regulations from being implemented. 10:49:41 AM

This is why fakes and cheats are so afraid of rapid information flow. The story in Reason details how bloggers and others accessing informtation on the Internet were able to expose false claims and misrepresentations. This will continue to occur at a faster and faster rate, as people gain a better understanding of the tools. Eventually, you may actually have to back up your facts with real data, not just your word. 10:31:39 AM

Photograph Your Local Starbucks This Weekend. Lessig's latest good idea: Challenge Starbucks' ridiculous policy of not allowing photography in its stores.... [Dan Gillmor's eJournal]
I guess this explains why they never have birthday celebrations there. I have not seen anything posted saying photos are not allowed. I would be pretty upset if my camera was removed. What are they going to do about cell phones that take picture? How about the incredibly small digital cameras avaliable? They need to recognize that they can not prevent this. 10:26:57 AM

FBI to Eight Egyptian-Born Men: Sorry, We Goofed. Oops, never mind, says the FBI. A year ago, Crazy Tomato was a popular restaurant in Evansville, Indiana, near... [TalkLeft: The Politics of Crime]
Actually, what I am most impressed with is not that certain governmental powers woyld be abused. That is bound to happen and is why we have a Bill of Rights and Constitution. It is that the FBA actually apologized in such a publc manner. This does not happen very often and is an incredibly good sign. Any group with the power of the FBI will make mistakes. Admitting to them only helps and restricts the abilities of conspiracy buffs. Good Job. 10:18:29 AM
