Time to Invest?. TIME TO INVEST?....Today's fan mail:Time elapsed since Calpundit made snarky remark about, "Hey, shouldn't the market be higher now that the war is over"? Approx. 50 days. Market perfomance since? S&P up around 100 points, Dow up 700, and heading... [CalPundit]
A good demonstration of fact checking. The Intetrnet does not forget. 11:30:04 AM

A very nice article from a Slate journalist who did not know he had employed Salam Pax until returning to the US. Whether Pax existed and who he was has been a raging argument on the Internet for months. His blog provided a unique viewpoint of Baghdad, different from the pro-war and anti-war voices seen on so many US blogs. He managed to infuriate as many as he enchanted. I am sure that we will see his story on TV sometime soon. 11:19:53 AM

Missing WMD. MISSING WMD....George Bush says ? hallelujah! ? that we've found the weapons of mass destruction. A commenter over at South Knox Bubba's site begs to disagree:It seems the pipes are made of the wrong materials; the joints, whether screw threaded... [CalPundit]
Follow all the links in this discussion. You can read the CIA's report on the trucks. Be sure to read the Slate article and its sidebar. There is way too much doubt about those trucks to pin all our WMD fear on. These are not what a policy of pre-emption requires if we are to have any allies that will ever believe us. 11:01:34 AM

Hollywood boogeyman spooks video-game industry. Another Electronic Entertainment Expo has passed into history, and the most surprising news came not from the floor of the Los Angeles Convention Center, but from the airport, where a half-dozen French reporters were denied access not only to the convention, but to the United States, as well. For committing... [TV Barn]
Lack of creativity and innovation is not only a disease of the old time major media, such as TV or radio. It looks like computer games are also falling into the same trap. Once large amounts of money get involved, everyone gets caustious. Let's just stick with sequels. Just like Hollywood. Of course, the scary thing for 'money people' is that the audience WILL eventually leave to the next new thing. You need an adaptable culture to move quickly in these industries, one that actually relishes change. If you try to control everything, you will fail. Check out Jobs' comments on Apple and competition. They are not trying to lead by control. They are trying to adapt and stay ahead. Jobs is confident they can remain ahead of others, and, so, are not worried about what others do. 10:45:20 AM

Networks need to be up front with their audiences, too. Readers of the Los Angeles Times woke up Monday morning to three unforgivably long and repetitive stories previewing television's 2003 "upfront" season." The editors wisely decided it would be better for street sales if the photo of NBC Entertainment czar Jeff Zucker didn't accompany the story on page 1 of... [TV Barn]
A wonderful essay that asks some very important questions and helps identify just why media, and particularly TV, are losing. Incrasing the size of these organizations does not increase creativity. Thus we get such wonderful uncreative ideas of repeats during sweeps, shunting and just plain confusion. These are the ideas of MBAs not artists. When your industry is based on the content created by innovators, you had better make sure they have a strong voice. If the industry is run by middle management dweebs, by fast buck charlatans, you will eventually fail. Of course, in the meantime you can use the government to try to maintain your hold on a failing business model but you had better look for work elsewhere. You will need it. 10:35:08 AM

"The Observer | Special reports | Blair: I have secret proof o..." [Daypop Top 40]"QB
The main argument was NOT whether there were WMD before the war. We had to fight a war NOW because Saddam was just days, weeks away from using them, giving them to terrorists, etc. We could not wait for inspectors to do their job. It had to be taken care of and taken care of now! We heard Powell discuss just how much and how many. We now have Rumsfeld saying that WMD may never be found and it does not matter. We have Wolfowitz suggesting that WMDs were chosen for bureaucratic reasons. Every day without a smoking gun simply makes this issue more of a problem. 10:25:36 AM
