Survey: average Windows PC is 'sick' more days per year than average human. "The average PC is 'sick' for more days annually because of virus infection and spam overload than the average human, according to Yahoo Mail. The average UK PC is rendered unusable for the equivalent of around nine working days every year because the owner is cleaning up spam or fighting viruses. This is two days a year more than the average UK worker takes off as sick leave, according to Yahoo," Munir Kotadia reports for ZDNet UK.

Scientists Now Need OK to Consult WHO. Now specific US government scientists can't even be selected to advise international bodies without approval - the government will choose who gets to give advice. I wonder whether or not those chosen will have opinions in line with what the administration wants rather than what the science says... silly question, isn't it - we already know the answer.

The continuing degradation of American science by politically appointed hacks. This is beginning to sound like the old Soviet Union where only scientists who had been vetted by the government could speak outside the country, and Nobel prize winners were kept in house arrrest. I wonder what Linus Pauling would do (the only winner of a science Nobel and the Nobel Peace Prize)?  comment []12:00:58 PM    



Democracy Itself is in Grave Danger

One of the most important speeches by any political figure in recent memory. He describes exactly the fears I have, of an Executive Branch becoming all powerful, and its disregard for the rule of law our Founders lived for. And many conservatives respond by calling him crazy. The bankruptcy of their discourse, as seen in Cheney's unapologetic dropping of the F-bomb in the Senate CHanber, demonstrates a tremendous lack of respect as well as a lack of rational thught.  comment []11:47:48 AM
