Cuban-Americans for Kerry
More evidence that the president needs all the illegal vote-stealing and registration-purging help he can get in Florida.

One Floridian on the New travel and remittance restrictions imposed by the administration on Cuba:
"What Bush is doing is choking Cuban people by the neck. . . . The grass-roots people are paying the price, not the government," Beruvides's father, Miguel Beruvides, 58, said bitterly. The measures are "inhumane" and "against families," he said, trying to calm his wife, who has been crying since the rules were announced.
Wonder who he's voting for?

It could be all over if Bush loses the Cuban-American vote.  comment []11:49:23 PM

It's called "Saudi Arabia" "Imagine a country ruled by people who go around chopping off people's heads. That's a dark future." - US Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld, Reuters, Oct. 2, 2004.

I think Rumsfeld needs to be a little more careful in his choice of words.  comment []11:44:49 PM

#3 CIA pick was caught shoplifting
There's something oh so comforting when the Bush Administration picks a new #3 guy at the CIA and we find out the guy is a petty thief.
- John in DC [AMERICAblog]

Sounds like he would fit right in. Aren't several ex-felons already working for this Administration?  comment []11:40:02 PM

Strange Victory. All things considered, it's better for Samarra not to be insurgent hands. But what was really accomplished? After all, "The Americans said they had killed at least 125 insurgents, but if the past is any guide, more are likely to... [Matthew Yglesias]

As stated in the article, we used mortars to disperse the insurgents, not kill them. This is what Vietnam, or any guerilla war, for that matter, so difficult. If we leave, they will be back. We might not have accomplished much.  comment []11:34:19 PM

Review of SAGE at HighWire.
Péter JacsÃ" reviews SAGE Journals Online since its move to HighWire Press. Excerpt: "This partnership between SAGE and HighWire Press is a typical example of being good for the goose and good for the gander. HighWire Press' impressive digital offering has been enhanced by a substantial number of social sciences journals and SAGE made the wise move to enhance the functionality of its digital journal assets. Even when the free period is over, users will enjoy free access to the bibliographic citations and abstracts of 60,000 articles from respected social sciences journals. Assuming, that is, that SAGE uses the same strategy that has been used for other HighWire Press-hosted journals: freebies and subscription options that are well-balanced for the benefit of everyone (except for the abstracting/indexing services)."

I love Highwire Press and think it serves as a wonderful model for how scholarly ublication can benefit its users and its authors by open access.  comment []10:55:46 PM
