[Ironic] Ohio factory that Bush visited last year and used as example of how his economic policies were working announces it will shut down and lay off all 1300 employees. (Counterspin) [Fark]

Geological time gets a new period. Scientists add a new time period to their official calendar of Earth's history - the first new geological time period in 120 years. [BBC News | News Front Page | UK Edition]

It's the Ediacaran. A nice coincidence for me as I'm reading Snowball Earth about the development of the theory that the world was several times covered with ice in the Precambrian era, before the Ediacaran era.

Outrage!.

A Chronological Train Wreck

Archeology Today looks at Troy.

Homer, who belongs in the eighth century B.C., told of events long before, around 1200 B.C., toward the end of the Late Bronze, which is when the ancient Greeks said the Trojan War took place. So we might expect some unity in the archaeological setting, with things matching what we know about material culture in the Aegean world ca. 1200 B.C., but instead we get a chronological train wreck.
