A great post from the Trickster today on that quintessential badman, StaggerLee, and the one-of-a-Mississippi John Hurt who recorded the (?) definitive version of his story. Dave Van Ronk and Bob Dylan and Frank Hutchinson recorded magnificent versions, too. But there are so many, you could go on and on. I just listened to half a dozen (one of those times when I'm really happy I ripped my whole CD collection) versions. Dylan really stand out, of course.
