Today on Fox News Sunday, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) said Bush’s warrantless domestic wiretapping program is illegal:
WALLACE: But you do not believe that currently he has the legal authority to engage in these warrant-less wiretaps.
MCCAIN: You know, I don’t think so, but why not come to Congress? We can sort this all out. I don’t think — I know of no member of Congress, frankly, who, if the administration came and said here’s why we need this capability, that they wouldn’t get it. And so let’s have the hearings.
McCain is the latest addition to a growing list of prominent conservatives — including Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA), Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KS) and Sen. Richard Lugar (R-IN) — who have expressed serious concerns about the legality of the program.
Karl Rove doesn’t want to spin it this way but concern about the warrantless domestic spying program is bipartisan.

"Which is harder to watch, the pulling out the fingernails of "Syriana" or Heath [Ledger] and Jake [Gyllenhaal] inamorata in this?" - Fox News' John Gibson, preferring to watch grotesque torture than same-sex love. Gibson, of course, hasn't seen the movie. And the Latin Italian word he uses refers to a feminine object of attraction, not a masculine one.

From Hollywood.com:
Tom Cruise'has reportedly stopped an episode of South Park that mocks him from being aired in Britain. The show, in which Nicole Kidman'and Cruise's fellow Scientologist John Travolta'are depicted attempting to coax an animated version of the actor out of a closet, caused controversy when broadcast in the U.S.
The cartoon Kidman tells Cruise, "Don't you think this has gone on long enough? It's time for you to come out of the closet. You're not fooling anyone"—referring to allegations about Cruise's sexuality.
According to TheRegister.co.uk, Paramount has agreed not to show the episode again, after Cruise complained.
A source tells the site, "Tom is famously very litigious and will go to great lengths to protect his reputation. Tom was said not to like the episode and Paramount just didn't dare risk showing it again. It's a shame that UK audiences will never see it because it's very funny."
Unfortunately for Tom Cruise,'the internet exists and the episode can be viewed in full here.' If you like South Park--and hate Cruise more every time you hear something about him--then you'll love this episode.' It's side-splittingly funny.

A lot of folks dislike Howard Dean because he says a lot of impolitic stuff. But the Democrats have needed someone who is willing to err on the side of offending people for a long time. Even if Howard has to take three punches (confederate flag pickups, Republicans are stupid, we can't win the war) to land one, I'm OK with that. The "pick our spots, never open ourselves to attack" approach, well, it sucked.
Anyway, this comes to us via Atrios, and it really makes my smile.
Dean Makes Wolf Cry.
BLITZER: Should Democrats who took money from Jack Abramoff, who has now pleaded guilty to bribery charges, among other charges, a Republican lobbyist in Washington, should the Democrat who took money from him give that money to charity or give it back?
DEAN: There are no Democrats who took money from Jack Abramoff, not one, not one single Democrat. Every person named in this scandal is a Republican. Every person under investigation is a Republican. Every person indicted is a Republican. This is a Republican finance scandal. There is no evidence that Jack Abramoff ever gave any Democrat any money. And we've looked through all of those FEC reports to make sure that's true.
HEY BIDEN - IS THAT SO FUCKING HARD?

Japanese singer-songwriter Ayano Tsuji bucks her nation's J-pop trend. In high school, she loved folk music, but found her hands were too small to play guitar. So she turned to the ukelele. Producer Robert Rand has a profile.
(Via NPR Programs: Weekend Edition - Saturday.)
Enjoyed these tunes. Wonder what it would be like to have the album, have some of the songs turn up randomly in playlists?
