There is no spoon.... Did the President really just say that? [Back In Iraq 2.0]

The larger point is, and the fundamental question is, did Saddam Hussein have a weapons program? And the answer is, absolutely. And we gave him a chance to allow the inspectors in, and he wouldn't let them in.

I can certainly believe he said it. That may very well end up being the "official" version of events, too. I'm reminded of the way that the Crusaders kept harping on how Saddam had thrown the weapons inspectors out of Iraq in 1998. Nobody disputed that "fact," but it never happened. The inspectors left of their own accord, because they were unhappy with the lack of cooperation from Iraq, and a simple web search for the many news stories from 1998 would have shown this.

I'll bet in another five years it will be "common knowledge" that the US invaded Iraq because Saddam wouldn't allow inspectors in.

Government Mass Murder A-OK. Say the government employees called judges. And remember: the assault, gassing, shooting, and incineration of the Davidians was not terrorism.... [LewRockwell.com Blog]

When the government does it they call it "law enforcement."

A Farewell to Smarm.

In honor of Ari Fleischer's last day as Capo di Tutti Spinners, let's all take a moment to recall some of our favorite Ari moments. I still get misty eyed when I recall the time his well-worn righteous indignation schtick ventured so far into the preposterous that the Washington press corps actually laughed him off stage. And there's the classic:

I think the burden is on those people who think he didn't have weapons of mass destruction to tell the world where they are.

Ari was a "Whopper of the Week" regular at Slate, and you can review the good times here, here, here, and most recently here.

If you're finding it hard to let go, you can always stop by the Ari Fan Club to commiserate with other Ari-lovers.

[Hit & Run]

I'll miss him. He's such a bad liar that he made it really easy to tell when the government was lying about something.
