Massad Ayoob at Backwoods Home Magazine - Cheap guns are good enough - a "Saturday Night Special" could just save your life. [End the War on Freedom]

Aside from the main point of the article, there's an interesting story about a case in which Janet Reno, then a State's Attorney in Miami, charged a woman with murder for defending herself from her abusive and homicidal husband.

U.S. Adopts "Aggressive Tactics" on Iraqi Fighters.

Col. David Hogg, commander of the 2nd Brigade of the 4th Infantry Division, said tougher methods are being used to gather the intelligence. On Wednesday night, he said, his troops picked up the wife and daughter of an Iraqi lieutenant general. They left a note: "If you want your family released, turn yourself in." Such tactics are justified, he said, because, "It's an intelligence operation with detainees, and these people have info." They would have been released in due course, he added later. (link)

Now we're taking hostages? Laa hawla wa laa quwwata illa billah. The U.S. needs to get out. Now.

Colonel Hogg and his subordinates are a disgrace to their uniform and country. They must have been handing around the British too much, if they're resorting to such tactics. Hopefully Hogg will be court-martialed for kidnapping, and the troops involved severely reprimanded for obeying an illegal order.
