Today I saw a B-2 flying over Koreatown--not a common sight! Hopefully it was participating in some New Years parade, and not on its way to bomb somebody.

Bicycling.

President Bush spent the day clearing brush at his Texas ranch, and riding his bicycle. The US pledged $15M to help the victims of the great earthquake of 2004. (The Bush administration raised that to $35M today, blaming Bill Clinton).

Next year, we're going to spend $87,000M in Iraq. And, in order to phase out social security and replace it with private savings accounts, the Republicans are willing to spend about $1,000,0000M.

Can someone explain our priorities?

Sorry -- too much urgent brush clearing to do!

[Mark Bernstein]

Well, in this case the relevant priorities are a politicians, not ours. Politicians give money to people who support their election campaigns, and to buy votes. Poor people in southeast Asia don't vote in US elections or contribute to politicians' re-election funds, so they're not very important.

If I were president, I wouldn't spend money on any of these things, because they are in fact all illegal under the US Constitution.
